Bhadravathi city is located on the banks of river Bhadra. It is one the important cities in Shimoga district. The city is the centre of two major industries namely the Vishweshwaraya Iron And Steel (VISL) Factory and Mysore Paper Mills Ltd. (MPM).

BHADRA DAM BHADRA RIVER : The Bhadra originates in the Western Ghats range, and flows east across the Deccan Plateau, joined by its tributaries the Somavahini, Thadabehalla, and Odirayanahalla. The river flows through the Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary. A dam was built across the river near Lakkavalli. The Bhadra meets the Tunga River at Koodli, a small town near Shivamogga. The combined river continues east as the Tungabhadra, a major tributary of the Krishna, which empties into the Bay of Bengal.
