A brief History about Bhadravathi

Bhadravathi was earlier known as Benkipura. The availability of iron ore at Kemmanagundi and perennial water supply from Bhadra river facilitated the location of large scale Visvesvaraya Iron and Steel in the town during 1918 and Mysore Paper Mills Ltd. in the year 1936.

 

What to see:

1.LAXMI NARASIMHA TEMPLE

The Laxmi Narasimha Temple, built by the Hoysalas in the heart of the town attractes piligrims from all  parts of Karnataka and other States.

 

 

2. B.R.P DAM

Located at a distance of 20 kms from Bhadravathi City. The dam is constructed accross river Bhadra and the height of the dam is 194 ft. There are a number of islands created by Bhadra River and you can enjoy the boat ride around these islands.

 


How to reach

Bhadravathi is located at a distance of 255 kms from state capital Bangalore and 20 kms from the district headquarters Shimoga.

Bhadravathi is accessible both by road and by rail.

The National Highway from Bangalore to Honnavar(B.H.Road) and Mangalore - Harihar State Highways passes through the city .

The Bangalore - Shimoga Railway line passes through the city.
